Last night we had some tremendously high tides. The marsh was completely flooded, with even the highest spots under 1.5 ft of water. The horseshoe crabs love high tides for spawning and piles of their eggs were left on the beach today. Most of the migrating shorebirds have departed for their breeding grounds in the far north, so the only birds left to enjoy the bounty are willets, laughing gulls, and blackbirds.
